Jimmy Lydon vs Billy Halop
I like the way they portrayed boarding school life with all its brutality intact. Handsome young Halop, (who resembles George Clooney at that age) tries to bully Lydon (still alive at this writing) into submission in some incredibly ruthless ways. Freddie Bartholomew barely attempts to help roommate Brown, again very realistic. That's probably why the film was a relative bomb at the box office in pre-war US. Tis a pity: Hardwicke didn't even get an Oscar nod that year for one of his best roles.
